Scanning NV Magnetometry with Qnami ProteusQ

by Prof. Patrick Maletinsky, Qnami Inc. and

Basel University, Switzerland

The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center is an atomic-scale defect in diamond. It hosts an electronic spin that can be initialized and detected optically, making it an exceptional system for quantum sensing of magnetic phenomena at room temperature. A particularly powerful approach is to incorporate the NV center in a scanning probe microscope (SPM), which enables a unique combination of field sensitivity with nanometric spatial resolution.

During this webinar, we will present the Qnami ProteusQ, the first commercial SPM making use of NV quantum technology. Specifics of this quantum microscope, which enable quantitative and non-perturbative analysis of surface magnetic fields, will be discussed. We will demonstrate the performance of this new characterization tool through magnetometry on antiferromagnetic systems and ultra-thin ferromagnets.

History and fundamentals of Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

by Dr. Marc Chaigneau, HORIBA France

TERS gives the vibrational information of a sample with nanometric resolution. Obtaining physico-chemical information with such resolution opens up possibilities to characterize materials at unprecedented levels which allows research findings unsuspected until recently.

This webinar introduces the fundamentals of TERS through the history of near-field spectroscopic optics. From the great idea of Synge over 90 years ago to the technical progress of scanning probe microscopy, the history of near-field optics crosses the emerging plasmonics field and the discovery of the amplification of the Raman signal by Van Duyne.

This webinar will also briefly present the current applications of this nanospectroscopic technique in 2D materials and other semiconductors, but also for biological samples such as viruses, cells, and DNA.
